Snow Leopard

Snow Leopard

The Snow Leopard is a mysterious wild cat known to patrol the vast wilderness of the mighty Himalayas. It is known for being one of the rarest big cats to see in the wild.

Because of the Snow Leopard’s ability to stay hidden, locally, it is known as the ‘ghost of the mountains’. This cat is deadly and has perfected the art of stalking its prey.

The fur of the Snow Leopard is thick and keeps its body well insulated. The Leopard can, therefore, strive in the harshest conditions. The colour and markings of the fur mean that this fierce hunter can disappear into its environment and become practically invisible to the naked eye.

The Snow leopard stalks the land of 12 different areas across Central Asia’s rugged mountain ranges, and the southern Siberian mountains in Russia.

The Snow Leopard is not only silent and invisible, but it is also quick and agile. This ghost of the mountain can reach speeds of 60 Kilometres or 36 miles per hour, even on the rugged terrain. On top of its tremendous speed, this predator can leap the distance of up to 15 meters.

The below video shows the Snow Leopard in action.

The eyes of the Snow Leopard are also quite astonishing. They are 6 times more powerful than the human eye, and this allows the Leopard to hunt at dusk.

The Snow Leopards diet usually consist of Blue Sheep, Mountain Ibex, marmots, hares and game birds. However, the Snow Leopard is known to kill animals three times their body weight.
