Scientist Injects Himself With 3.5 Million Year Old Bacteria

A Russian scientist injects himself with 3.5 million year old bacteria, “Bacillus F.”

So I was browsing YouTube late last night, (the start of every great story I know), and I came across a video about a Russian scientist who injected himself with a serum containing some very old Bacteria he found back in 2009. His logic was that if the bacteria could survive so long in the harsh conditions it was in, it could somehow benefit a larger host. He was correct; in a sense. He proceeded to inject the bacteria into fruit flies, mice and eventually himself. He saw positive effects in all of the hosts, claiming that the mice and fruit flies lived longer, were generally healthier, and stayed fertile even into old age. But here the thing; no one knows why, and they’ve been trying to explain the phenomenon ever since. In my opinion, the bacteria benefited the immune systems of the hosts and I have no doubt in my mind that the bacteria is somehow still alive inside the hosts. Either way, the scientist claims to have felt healthier ever since, and has even commented saying that his productivity has improved and he has been able to work “longer hours”.
