The humanitarian disaster in Yemen is in danger of reaching a tipping point as the battle for the Yemeni port city of Hudaydah intensifies. The Saudi-led coalition air strikes and military skirmishes are not only endangering desperately needed medical facilities in the area but could end up blocking the Port through which the vast majority of the desperately needed aid flows. This assault on Hudaydah which is Yemen’s main Deep Water Port began back in June but now it appears that the coalition is planning an all-out assault and the UN fears that this could lead to mass starvation. Things are already terrible there with Cholera running rife in some parts and an estimated 400,000 children under the age of five suffering acute malnutrition. America has already demanded a cease-fire, however, this seems to be going unheeded. Sadly as with all conflicts, it is the civilians who are suffering and the only hope for millions is that the UN can broker an agreement which stops what is largely a regional power struggle between Saudi Arabia & Iran from killing millions.
