Yemen Conflict Is Americas Support For The Saudis Beginning To Wane

Finally some action (we hope) on what is one of the worlds lesser known but still appalling humanitarian disasters. US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have become quite vociferous in calling for a ceasefire and an end to Saudi led Airstrikes against the Houthi rebels within 30 days. These attacks are causing untold suffering to the civilian population.

Nearly half of the countries population are starving thanks to blockades and the inevitable infrastructure disruption being cased, and up until now the Trump administration have been happy to turn a blind eye to the suffering, even aiding and abetting by providing logistical and intelligence support. But as international pressure grows on Saudi Arabia in the wake of Jamal Khashoggi’s brutal murder, it seems like the US are finally waking up to what is going on and may be trying to distance its self slightly.

The conflict  has been going since 2015 & according to the UN at least 6,660 civilians have been directly killed and 10,563 injured in the raids, while countless thousands more have died indirectly from malnutrition & disease.

Hopefully now that their main ally is calling time on this Saudi Arabia and its Cohorts will ease off and seek a resolution to the conflict which doesn’t involve killing women & children in what the UN have indicated my involve War Crimes by both sides in the conflict.
