Pokemon and other trading cards have come back into the mainstream recently, but not as what they were initially intended for.

Youtubers and internet personalities have made trading cards popular again with their unboxings and collection videos.

Particularly, when discussing the value of some of these cards.

Now, these cards 10 years ago were circulating school playgrounds and you used to battle your friends cards with them, but now they’re more of a collectors item with the focus being on rare cards rather than powerful ones.

For example, an english version of the first edition Pokemon charizard hologram card from the 90s recently sold for a cool 55k at auction, so it may be worth getting some of your old cards that are likely stored in your attic checked out by the PSA!

The PSA are a trusted card value service and card grader. They also offer a number of other services but they are mainly known for their work with grading trading cards.

Yu-gi-oh cards are also another trading card that can be worth money, with common cards and ones you wouldn’t expect to be worth that much being sold for up to £1,000 each!

You can find many sites that you can get your cards valued on, often for free.

Some of these sites just index prices found all over the web after you tell them what card you want valued – they basically do all the hard work for you.

Garyvee, an entrepreneur and online personality believes despite the current resurgence in popularity into these cards, they will be worth even more in 10-15 years time, so they may be worth hanging on to – especially the rare ones!

The takeaway here is search old boxes and your attic – you may be sitting on a large amount of money. And, if you discover a card online is worth a lot of money and you remember owning it in the past, don’t let it consume you. You’re definitely not the only one who’s been in this situation!

Besides, who was to know some pieces of paper that children used to trade with eachother would be worth so much a decade later.
