It has been revealed that over 7000 people have failed to make the switch since the first colourised broadcast.

Apparently London has the most TV licences for black and white sets at 1,768, followed by 431 in the West Midlands and 390 in Manchester. A crazy total of 7,161 UK households haven’t yet upgraded to colour televisions despite the first transmissions starting way back in 1967. Maybe it reminds them of a simpler time? Or maybe west London gangsters are watching some old westerns while smoking a cigar; who knows. A black and white licence has one distinct advantage over its colour equivalent: it’s a third of the price at £50.50 a year compared to the colour one which sits at a cool £150.50. The TV Licensing companies don’t carry out checks of households claiming to watch a black and white set. “It’s entirely done on trust,” a spokesperson said. So maybe this generations Kray twins aren’t sat watching Red River on their black and white TV, its just some ordinary people illegally saving £100 a year.
