Botswanian authorities estimate that around 400 Buffaloes were drowned after being chased into the Chobe river near the border with Namibia. Reports indicate that the herd was unusually large and when chased by Lions the ensuing panic probably contributed to the deaths. Apparently, events like this are not that uncommon but are rarely on this scale. The meat was collected for consumption by the local community means that although sad at least they were not left to rot.
