After taking part in a recent tennis exhibition, Novak Djokovic, the world number 1 in men’s tennis, has tested positive for Coronavirus.

After testing positive, it turns out there were also a few others at the events Belgrade and Zadar, Croatia, who have tested positive for the virus, leading some to believe its a small outbreak in one of the tennis locations.

Djokovic sure wife has also tested positive, after her husband was criticised for organising the tournament in the first place.

“The moment we arrived in Belgrade we went to be tested. My result is positive, just as Jelena’s, while the results of our children are negative,” Djokovic said. “Everything we did in the past month, we did with a pure heart and sincere intentions. Our tournament meant to unite and share a message of solidarity and compassion throughout the region.”

It’s also been reported that social distancing measures weren’t adhered to at either of the tournaments, meaning the virus, which was clearly present, was easily spread.

Fellow attendees Viktor Troicki, Grigor Dimitrov and Borna Coric also all tested positive for the virus.

In another statement, the world number 1 said: “We organized the tournament at the moment when the virus has weakened, believing that the conditions for hosting the Tour had been met. Unfortunately, this virus is still present, and it is a new reality that we are still learning to cope and live with. I am hoping things will ease with time so we can all resume lives the way they were.

“I am extremely sorry for each individual case of infection. I hope that it will not complicate anyone’s health situation and that everyone will be fine. I will remain in self-isolation for the next 14 days, and repeat the test in five days.”

At least he takes some form of accountability for the tournament being set up perhaps too soon, and not adhering to social distancing, but the virus is very contagious, and spreads increasingly easily.
