“Non-traditional” advent calendars have been a huge hit these last couple of years. The price advent calendars often sell out within weeks of release. Examples of these calendars are beauty advent calendars, drink (gin) advent calendars or even food calendars.

They can range in costs but let’s just say they are not cheap! Some even go up to £10,000 for luxury offerings each day. Each year more brands are jumping on the non-traditional calendars due to the high demand. John Lewis is an example that have stocked up on 15 different non-traditional calendars this year.

Are non-traditional advent calendars a rip-off?

Beauty calendars are just a couple of a brands products, but this can be a waste of money as they may not work for everyone’s skin type. If the advent calendar is bought and does not work for the person, it is seen as a waste of money because they can not use the products that they spent so much money on the calendar.

The products in an advent calendar are more than likely miniatures therefore you may not be able to give you a good idea of the product and what you are going to get from the product. With it is a bit of a rip off for some as they are paying so much for only small sized products that don’t show what they are really like.

Some retailers may believe that by giving miniatures of their products the customer can test the product they may never though about getting, if they like it the retailers will make money as the full-sized products will be bought.

Peak of non-traditional calendars.

The non-traditional calendars started in the beauty sector around the turn of the decade but in the last few years they have expanded into other sectors. You can get advent calendars for food, drinks, dog products and many more.

It is said that the trend is building up, but it could peak this year as not many of them will be sold due to so many brands now offering them. It is expected for not a lot of sales but more of them will be getting reduced as they are only needed for the 1st December onwards and there is no point for buying after the month starts.

Some of the calendars offer a good reduced price from what the products are worth when all added up but some are way over priced.
