McDonalds Monopoly has been cancelled this year in the UK.

McDonalds was one of the many stores that closed in March.

The McDonalds monopoly event this year was promised to be the most special one yet – until the Coronavirus came along, and most places had to close down, including McDonalds. The date for its return was set to be March 25th; right when everything started to close down in the UK.

McDonald’s UK & Ireland CEO Paul Pomroy said in a statement: “We took the decision to close our restaurants shortly before this year’s Monopoly promotion was due to launch. We know many of you enjoy this promotion, which has run since 2005 in the UK.

“To enable safe working and social distancing inside our restaurants and to minimise the pressure on our employees, we have decided to cancel this year’s Monopoly VIP campaign.

“It creates a great deal of excitement inside our restaurants and relies heavily upon menu items we cannot safely reintroduce yet.

“Rest assured, we are already planning for Monopoly 2021 and hope to be able to bring this popular promotion back next Spring.”

However, fear not McDonalds lovers, as there are some big things on the way. As we announced recently, the breakfast menu is set to be returning to McDonald’s, and if you’re in one of the few places where it’s already re-opened, congratulations.

There are also a few more things set to return to the menu, including the well known and loved chicken mayo, bacon double cheeseburgers, and even the range of shakes McDonalds offer.

Its unclear whether the Monopoly event will happen at a later date this year, but it’s expected to just be put off entirely until next year, when it’s expected to be safe to do so.
