The UK is through the “worst” of the Coronavirus pandemic according to the PM, but he stresses we must not “blow it” now things are being relaxed.

The PM speaking on LBC.

As you may know, there is set to be a rather significant easing of lockdown restrictions this weekend, with much of the hospitality and leisure facilities re-opening – provides they implement measures that protect customers.

For the first time in three months, starting tomorrow, pubs, restaurants and hotels will be re-opening, hairdressers and barbers will also reopen, which I’m sure many people are happy about. This, however, has led the PM to say a few words to the public regarding the relaxation.

Johnson told LBC: “Tomorrow we come to step three of the plan that I set out on 10 May, that everybody, I think, has understood, or huge numbers of people have understood and followed very carefully and very closely.

“And it’s because people stuck to that plan that we’re now able to carefully and cautiously open up hospitality tomorrow.

“And my message is really for people to enjoy summer sensibly and make sure that it all works.”

He also mentioned how they did consider moving the relaxation date to a Monday, as many people will be off tomorrow and seemingly “flock” to pubs and restaurants alike, but the PM and his associates concluded that starting the relaxation tomorrow, on Saturday, will make no difference.

The PM said 4 July was picked “based on a clear understanding of the statistical risks that we now face as a country”.

“We’ve progressed thanks to the efforts of the British people from an incidence of the disease at about one in 400 a few weeks ago to maybe one in 2,200 today,” he said.

“You’re appreciably less likely now to be in close proximity to someone who has it than you were even a couple of weeks ago.

“We’re making progress, we aimed for 4 July, we wanted to set ourselves a target, we think we’re in good shape but my message is let’s not blow it.”

Gyms are also said to be able to reopen in a “couple of weeks,” but in regards to general health protocols it is still recommend to wash your hands regularly, and face masks on public transport are still compulsory. Starting tomorrow, July 4th, the social distancing measurement of 2 meters is set to be reduced to 1, in an attempt to both aid the hospitality sector, and still keep people safe.
