A 23 year old man has sadly passed away after being attacked by a shark whilst swimming in the Great Barrier Reef.
The man was swimming around 75 kilometres off the coast on Monday when he suffered bites to his leg, hand and elbow. It was said that it wasn’t a “social swim” by police, suggesting the man was doing his job.
Queensland state Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, has spoken out and said the man worked for the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service.
She told reporters: “once again a family out there is grieving for a young man who tragically has lost his life in this horrific shark attack.”
My sincere condolences go out to the family, friends and QPWS colleagues of the 23-year-old man who lost his life in a horrific shark attack off the Central Queensland coast overnight.

The Great Barrier Reef is to be treat with great caution, as there have been many indiscriminate shark attacks there; old, young, male, and female.
Everyone at FMS sends their condolences to the man’s friends and family during this time.
