Limited Social Gatherings Until 2021?

Scientists have said that social gatherings could be limited to less than 10 people until 2021.

Senior epidemiologist Adam Kucharski has said the UK could see “exponential growth” in Coronavirus cases if groups of people start gathering at “super-spreader” events such as Football games too soon after lockdown measures are relaxed.

Him and his research team have basically confirmed what the government have been saying all along: that social contacts must be limited until a vaccine is developed.

“Look at where these super-spreading events occur, it’s often at family gatherings and meals and weddings and parties and all these things that socially we want to happen,” Dr Kucharski said.

“As soon as measures are lifted, we risk being back where we started, facing exponential growth.”  H

And a study carried out by the CDC and other scientists has suggested that this may not happen until 2021, as vaccines aren’t some overnight development, and they will only become effective once enough people are vaccinated, which will also take time.

He added: “It’s going to be very hard to maintain control of the virus without some form of physical distancing unless your contact tracing is getting people isolated and tested really quickly and getting to their contacts really quickly.”

Contact tracing apps seem to be a recurring potential solution to problems due to the Coronavirus, and May people say we should expect them to be on our phones sometime in the near future.

“I think there is some hope. The optimistic scenario is that we’ll have more targeted and less disruptive measures, but life is going to remain pretty different for the foreseeable future, until a vaccine emerges” he concluded.
