Mass graves contain as many as 12,000 victims have been found in the north and western areas of Iraq around Nineveh, Kirkuk, Salahuddin, and Anbar. These stem from the period when these areas were controlled by the Islamic State (IS) rebels or terrorists depending on your viewpoint who overran the area declaring it part of their so-called caliphate in 2014. A UN report indicates the dead include women, children, the elderly and disabled and this has the hallmarks of ethnic cleansing which is being treated as a War Crime. The report indicates there are over 200 graves.
