During the Covid-19 pandemic, reports suggest that half a million people in the UK missed out on starting medication that could of helped those prevent heart attacks and strokes. This is suggested in a recent study done!

The British Heart Foundation team looked at the prescribing data that was given to them over the first 18 months throughout Covid and made a discovery.

491,000 people, equalling 27,000 a month, appear to have missed out on blood pressure pills due to Covid.

And 316,000 did not get treatment to lower their cholesterol.

“The NHS has already taken important and positive steps towards identifying people with high blood pressure as early as possible.

“However, we need this focus to be sustained in the long term to prevent any increase in heart attacks and strokes which will add to a healthcare system already under extreme pressure.” said a spokesmen about this topic.

Some factors – like older age – are unavoidable, but others can be managed:

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Smoking
  • Physical activity
