After closing like most businesses due to the Coronavirus, Greggs will be reopening for takeaway on Thursday this week.

Life is slowly returning to “normal”.

And, from early July, the roughly 1,700 other stores in the country should be reopening too.

As you’ll probably know, the government has been slowly reducing the amount of measures in place on citizens. We are currently at a stage where the retail sector can get up and running again, which is good for the economy and for the public.

There was initially a trail of around 20 Greggs stores in Newcastle reopening in May time, and the trial was obviously successful considering 800 stores are opening from Thursday.

There will be measures in place to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus of course, with an increase in PPE use, and screens to protect both staff and customers. Customers will also be encouraged to pay by card where possible, contactless more specifically.

Greggs executive Mr Roger Whiteside said: “Looking forward, although great uncertainty remains, we are excited to be resuming our service for many customers this week.

“I want to thank all of our 25,000 colleagues for their support in getting us to this point.”

On top of extra PPE and screens, staff have also been trained on how to handle situations that may arise due to the social distancing guidelines, and there will also be markings around stores to keep people separated. That’s the main goal of the staff at the moment, to follow guidelines to the best of their ability and make sure customers do so too.

July 4th is a date that many people are waiting for, where lockdown measures may be relaxed even further, allowing the public to do even more things.
