Scottish League One 2021-22 Predictions

Scottish League One in the 2021-22 season looks like being a division of two halves, with several teams having justifiable title claims. As a result, we have had to ponder our predictions carefully. Falkirk who were Scottish Cup finalists as recently as 2015 are facing their 3rd season in tier three despite having been expected even by us to bounce back at the first attempt. Their squad has been another merry go round and although they will start as favourites, they might face the rigours of the playoffs.

Queens Park finally relinquished their amateur status in 2019 and was promptly rewarded by winning the League Two title last season. That was their first full season as professionals and they look on the up. They have strengthened the squad with some free transfers from Scottish Premier League clubs and a second promotion is on the cards.

Alloa Athletic – the pride of Clackmannanshire spent the last three seasons in the Scottish Championship and should be in the hunt for a return. Like Falkirk have been busy in the summer rejigging their squad for the new season. They also poached Barry Fergusson from Kelty Hearts as their new manager which was a great move. We expect them to go close.

Anyway here is our best guess as to how the table will pan out.

Scottish League One Winners

Queens Park just gets the nod in what might be a tight finish. They have got into the habit of winning and that can count for a lot at this level. They will be playing at Firhill stadium this year while Lesser Hampden gets developed but that shouldn’t be a problem.

It will be close though and the following teams should be there or thereabouts…

Playoff Places

Falkirk has shown that history has no bearing on success, however, they should figure in the top four this time around. They finished a point outside of the playoffs last year and with a deep squad and a new manager, things look back on the up.

Relatively new arrivals Cove Rangers lost narrowly to Airdrieonians last season in the playoff semi and they should be in the hunt again. Alloa who came down also look set to compete.

Montrose & Airdrieonians should also figure.

Relegation candidates

East Fife had a decent 2020-21 but they have lost a few players, while Clyde again looks set to struggle. Dumbarton survived thanks to winning the relegation playoff and once again could find themselves in the relegation dogfight.

Scottish League One Final Table Prediction

  1. Queen’s Park
  2. Falkirk
  3. Alloa Athletic
  4. Cove Rangers
  5. Montrose
  6. Airdrieonians
  7. Peterhead
  8. Dumbarton
  9. Clyde
  10. East Fife

Playoff Team – Falkirk – (lose in the playoff)

So there we have it, our predictions for the 2021-22 Scottish League One. Should be an interesting season and might end with Falkirk still in it! While you are here check out our most recent Scottish League One posts or indulge in some of our Football Quizzes.
