Liverpool Reach Champions League Final For Second Consecutive Season

Liverpool 4 Barcelona 0 (Aggregate 4-3)

Match Programme

Liverpool produced one of the greatest Comebacks in Champions League history last night, beating Spanish Champions Barcelona 4-0 for an improbable 4-3 aggregate victory. After being well beaten at the Nou Camp last week and having both main strikers Mo Salah & Roberto Firmino ruled out only the most Pollyanna of Liverpool fans could have expected this result, and to be fair despite scoring an early goal, Barcelona had plenty of the play for the opening 50 minutes – then in the following two minutes everything changed.  Wijnaldum who started the game on the bench struck twice in two minutes firstly with a low shot – which the keeper could have done better with, and then with a towering header from Shaqiri’s cross.

Thereafter Barcelona looked nervy with the score tied on aggregate and in the 79th minute, the miracle comeback was completed when Origi hit his second from an opportunistic quickly taken corner which caught the Barcelona defence napping.

So Liverpool will now face either Spurs or Ajax in the final in Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium the home of Athletico.
