Resident Evil 8: Dashing Dad and Knives Out Achievement

Finish the story within 3 hours.

I’ve written this guide as the quickest path not mentioning picking up any items besides key items needed to progress. Since we’ll be only knifing you won’t need to pick up ammo or other components anyways. It’s recommended to guard and run past as many enemies as possible to save time. I finished my initial run getting all these achievements in 2:26:58 but it is definitely possible to go quicker as I was editing this guide during.

The reason it’s recommended and probably required to do this after 1 run of the game, besides knowing the layout of the game, is to buy the Karambit Knife from the Bonuses section on the main menu in the Extra Content Shop. This knife is necessary to have the required damage for killing enemies and the bosses in a timely manner the normal knife can’t do. It’s also worth noting you will have to shoot in certain places and I will mention these are they come up.

As for using four or less recovery items, on casual you will recover a certain amount of health over time so you shouldn’t run into any situations besides maybe the final boss where you need to use a health recovery item.

For time it’s worth noting that pausing the game, opening the map, or opening inventory pauses the timer so feel free to pause whenever required or look at the map as much as necessary. Also, if you reload a save or die your total time will go back to the time you had at the point of that save. I have given time stamps as I went through at random to give a gauge for your progress.
With those disclaimers let’s get through this awesome game as quick as possible!

Beginning House
1. This is the very beginning of the game starting with the village story cutscene. Feel free to press the pause button and click skip cutscene. Once you can move your character immediately go right and upstairs, take a left go straight then the door on your right to put the baby in the crib.

2. Next head back downstairs and go to Mia in the kitchen to start a skippable cutscene.

3. Once you’re in control of your character again, follow the linear path through the snow up to a cabin. Head downstairs, open the cabinet down here then right back upstairs going under a dresser. Head outside and continue down to the village.

4. Head left as you go down to the village, go right and then straight past the tractor and goat heads. You’ll continue through the village along a linear path until you have to interact with a green sheet in a house to start a cutscene.

In the village Part 1 (Need Maiden Crest & Demon Crest to move on)
1. After fighting the first lycan, go back into house and in a room to the left are the Bolt Cutters

2. Use the bolt cutters on the chained gate to move forward

3. Go into the house across the bridge for lycan ‘attack’, only need to kill the 1 lycan that comes in

4. Move along linear path into the house with the shotgun (not needed)

5. Continue to move forward and go outside to kill Lycans, soon the King Lycan will show up. (Pretty certain an amount of time just needs to pass to trigger the cutscene to progress. Regardless guard when needed and slice enemies at good opportunities)

6. After cutscene, go through the graveyard then to the right into the Church. You will pick up the Maiden Crest inside. (Typewriter here to save)

7. Go up through the wheat field (Fallow Plot) and open the door in the house to the right to start a cutscene with Elena and her father.

8. After cutscene, go out the back window and up a crate over to the Luiza’s house and unlock the gate.

9. Follow this extremely linear section in Luiza’s house. Grab the truck key in kitchen drawer and examine for the screwdriver. Go back to turn on the truck and try to escape.

10. After the cutscene, drop out the window from Luiza’s house, then use the screwdriver on little hut by the front gate to pick up the Demon Crest.

11. Head back to the graveyard and place both crests in the door ahead and rotate them to match their correct position [Time: 16:55].

12. Go across the bridge into the castle and interact w/ the yellow lever (cue cutscene with Heisenberg along w/ the rest of the Lords)

13. Run through the linear chase section (kick open lower tunnel at descending spikes, go into back left corner at wheel of spikes), afterwards pull the lever the cutscene interrupted from before

14. Go through the vineyard, meet the Duke, then go through the front door to Castle Dimitrescu

Castle Dimitrescu (Need 4 masks to progress) [20:00]
1. Progress naturally through and interact with the front door in the entrance hall to start a cutscene.

2. After getting a close-up of the daughters and mother, go into the next room and into the fireplace (You will grab the Maroon Eye from a ring in the secret doorway)

3. Move back to the entrance hall, into the Main Hall and up the stairs, then follow the hallway around to the right to place the Maroon Eye into a door.

4. This will begin a chase scene, move along the linear path, and fall down into the basement.

5. Move forward, through the Tasting Room, and into the Hall of War. Here you push the fire lantern into the unlit lanterns to open the way forward.

6. Move through the jail cell area, and try to guard and run past the Moroaica creatures (zombies). You will eventually enter another chase scene with a daughter, after a cutscene the window will chill her cold so time for the first boss fight! Just slice her up and she should die in about 5-6 swings.

7. After killing the daughter pick up the Sanguis Virginis (wine bottle) from the bucket in the next room, go through the kitchen then the door to the left of the big box.

8. Follow along through the Dining Room back into the Main Hall, go upstairs and right ahead into the Wine Room. Place the wine bottle in the compartment on the right to open up a secret room and grab the Courtyard Key.

9. Go back downstairs, around the daughter that spawns, into the Dining Room to open the door to the Courtyard. Go straight forward past the statue and to the right through a door.

10. Follow Lady Dimitrescu upstairs, go through the linear hallways and pick up the Castle Map (Main).

11. Go into the Hall of Ablution for a little puzzle. Have the two women face each other, the men face the horse, and the horse face toward the priestess. Go down the secret entrance that opens and down the ladder into the basement again. Make your way through guarding past zombies on the way. You will leave the basement by pulling a circular lever and going up to a balcony. [Time: 28:13]

12. Move around the balcony, across the wooden part to start a cutscene seeing Lady Dimitrescu. After, go into the room and pick up Lady Dimitrescu’s key on one of the candlelights to the left of the phone. Try and use the key on the subsequent door to start another cutscene.

13. Move through the dungeon to the end and try to pull the lever, after a cutscene, move around the enemy and pull the lever. Run through the hallway and use Lady Dimitrescu’s key on the door. Grab the Mask of Sorrow and then you’ll go back up into the courtyard.

14. To your right, open the Lady Dimitrescu door and pick up the Castle Map (Annex) directly in front of you. Go upstairs and around to the right side of the Opera Hall balcony, down the stairs, and into a room with a piano. Interact with the piano to do a puzzle. You’ll have to just hit the corresponding note on the music sheet. This will unlock a compartment on the piano giving you the Iron Insignia key.

15. Unlock a door to your right then go back to the Main Hall and up the stairs to the right, down the hallway where the Lady Dimitrescu door is. Open this as one of the daughters will spawn and go in to grab the Mask of Pleasure. This will lock the door behind you.

16. Go through the fireplace on the right, and then up the stairs for another daughter boss fight. Move the shelf on the left and then use a pipe bomb on the cracked wall (pipe bombs in the room on a desk, this will not void the KNIFE only achievement. After blowing open the wall just slice the daughter like the other one).

17. After the fight, grab the Mounted Animal Skull in this room above the fireplace. Head back to where you grabbed the Mask of Pleasure and examine the animal skull to reveal the back parts and place where the mask was to leave.

18. Head back to the Main Hall (will have to go around Lady Dimitrescu), downstairs and back out to the courtyard, Go left through the door and up the stairs to open an Iron Insignia door. You’ll have the third and last daughter fight now. (Pull the lever on one of the pillars to let the cold in and slice her up) [35:36 after the fight]

19. After the fight, you’ll go into the Hall of Joy where you can pick up the Mask of Joy. You will then go into the Atelier room to complete a puzzle to open the door to move on.

20. The puzzle in this room is to light fires by ringing 5 bells (completely fine and required to use a gun to light the 5 bells). The first bell is directly in front of you as you walk in. The second is swinging by the gears. The third is behind you on top of the dresser. The fourth is on top of the chandelier. The fifth is out the top window a distance away. This will open the Lady Mommy painting to move on.

21. Go up the ladder and into the Attic past the sniper on a chair. Out here you will need to go around past the elevator and up the rooftops until you reach a zipline that will take you to the Mask of Rage.

22. Use the nearby ladder and then the elevator to go back down to the entrance hall. Make your way back to the Hall of the Four (going around Lady Mommy on the way) and place the masks in their required spots. From left to right facing the front door: Mask of Sorrow, Mask of Pleasure, Mask of Joy, Mask of Rage.

23. Go out the front door, into the Tower of Worship. At the back there is a coffin where you will interact and pick up a knife to start a cutscene. After the cutscene will start the Lady Mommy boss fight. (I spent most of this fight in the beasts ass just knifing, guard when you see the beast about to attack, when she sends the bugs hide in one of the enclosed corner towers. Once you get thrown into the middle, just head up the stairs to progress the fight)

24. After the boss fight, you will grab the Dirty Flask on a pressure point to open the way ahead. [Time 43:44]. Move along the linear path down into a cave and open a door for another cutscene. After the cutscene, open the box on the altar for the Winged Key. Use this on the subsequent door and then pull the lever to move forward into the Ceremony Site.

25. Next go left and across the bridge back toward the village. Run past the lycans and continue forward until you reach the Altar to begin another cutscene.

In the village Part 2
1. Head back into the village using the Winged Key on the door to the right and then knife the lock on the red door. Go into the house directly past the Maiden statue and make your way through to the backyard. Around to the right you can unlock a gate and then go to your left into the stable and move the shelf out of the way.

2. Go down the alleyway and a left at the tractor. Use the knife on the “Do Not Enter” gate lock. Go left into the shack and look out the window. Deal with the lycan then the code for the lock in the room is 07-04-08 (you can see these numbers going left to right as you look out the window). In here will be the Jack Handle for the tractor and the M1911 pistol (not needed).

3. Go back through the gate, ignore the multiple Lycan and use the Jack Handle on the tractor to be able to crawl underneath and progress. Go to the right and run past a couple lycan, then go left down the alleyway running past a few more lycan. Moving forward to encounter an armored lycan. Just guard move past and guard if necessary while opening the Iron Insignia door to the right.

4. Then go inside the shack to pick up the Well Wheel. After this go up the yellow ladder you passed and down to the house with the red chimney.

5. Head left to the back of the house to go up the ladder. Follow the yellow rope to drop in the hole in the roof. Go around, kill the single lycan then open the jewelry box to find a piece that goes to the Winged key. Examine this piece to add to it creating the Four Winged Key.

6. Unlock the front door and then unlock the gate at the front of the house, then head back up the trail toward the Altar and a cutscene with the Duke. He will do the big favor of marking locations on the map and treasures.

7. The first Lord we must face is the doll maker Donna Beneviento. Use the four winged key on the door to the left of the Duke.

Doll Maker Donna Beneviento (doll)
The easiest but also the creepiest boss (No ammo/craftables at the house because no inventory)
1. Move along the very linear path toward the Beneviento house. After the Beneviento treasure location you’ll place the Family Photo in the door slot to move forward.

2. Once you reach the house, go in the front door then go through the door directly in front of you. Go right through another door and through the hallway until you reach an elevator. Take this elevator down. [Time 52:53]

3. Go forward as you exit and through this hallway into another room. Try to pick up the flask to start a cutscene. After the cutscene, examine the doll’s arm and remove its left shoulder to receive the Silver Key. After this, examine the doll’s left leg and take it off to receive the Winding Key.

4. Next, use the Silver Key on the door in the corner. Next open the lock on the main door in the doll room. The code is 05-29-11.

5. Go through the hallway and into the door that opens a bit by itself. In here is a music box you’ll use the winding key on. You will need to line up the cracks on the sections of the music box to get it to play. This will give you the Tweezers.

6. Head back to the doll and use the tweezers on her mouth to receive the Film. Head back out through the hallway to the elevator room. On the right is a door to the Study and the film projector. You will need to put the pieces of film in order. The correct order from left to right is: Monkey Toy, Village book, Baby Rose, Wedding Music box, lastly Hand w/ Ring. Then play the movie.

7. This will open a secret door. Once inside go right and pick up the Scissors the doll is holding to cut the bandages below to progress. (You do not need to pick up the phone when it rings keep going). Use the scissors on the doll’s chest to receive the Brass Medallion.

8. You will then go through the back left corner of the room toward the door missing a piece. Place the brass medallion in this missing piece. Then move the bottom piece to three eyes in a triangle that are closed. Move the top left piece to the right one (normal bird will two wings facing right).

9. Follow this creepy path and down the ladder into the well. You will pick up the Breaker Box key here then go back up the ladder. Go back the way you came, into the doll room and to the left back through the hallway (be prepared to turn back around). You will need to turn around after coming across a being of nightmares and back to the doll room and go around through the study to the elevator room.

10. Use the breaker box key on the box to the left of the elevator to pick up the Relief of a child piece. Go back through the study room toward the Mother door (you may run into the abomination, just sneak until it moves away) and use the Relief of a child piece on the door. Follow this linear path into a bedroom and pick up the Fuse on the wall (sadly this will turn out the lights).

11. Leave the bedroom and back through the kitchen (be prepared to turn around), then to the right up the stairs as the abomination comes so you’ll need to run back to the bedroom and hide under the bed. Once the abomination is on the opposite side of the room from the door, crawl out and run for your life back through the only way you can go, through the doll room, back through the hallway until you get back to the elevator room. Use the fuse on the breaker box, then go into the elevator after an agonizing wait and click the elevator button.

12. Head straight through the hallway into the main room with many dolls to start a cutscene. This will begin the doll boss fight. You will need to find the main doll with the wedding dress three times. First location will be upstairs in a bedroom, next will be either downstairs back in the main room with many dolls behind a dresser or over next to a bed, lastly is toward the front of the house and to the right.

13. After the boss fight you’ll receive the unborn baby piece to examine and add to the Four Winged Key making the Four Winged Unborn key. You will then pick up the Legs Flask and leave out the front door. [Time- 1:06:38]

14. Go forward through the cave, back into an elevator down, and up to the Garden where you’ll see a shack to the right. Go around this way and back to the main path avoiding some zombies. Head back to the altar with the Duke.

Salvatore Moreau (hunchback/fish monster)
1. Head back to the Altar and use the Four Wing Unborn key on the door south of the altar. Moving forward will start a cutscene and you’ll end up in a house. Move out and slice this beast to ribbons, it doesn’t take long but guard if needed.

2. Next, follow the river and you’ll come to some big green mold. To the right you’ll find a part you can interact with and destroy with the knife. You will then come across more green mold to destroy then go up a ladder. Enter the windmill, go downstairs, and pull a lever to an elevator down.

3. Go right and follow the minecart track around along a linear path to start a cutscene. You’ll receive the Arms flask then have to head back the way you came. When back in the main room, go left toward the outside then right to go up some stairs and knife the wood with yellow tape, go down the ladder and forward into a grassy area with enemies to run past. Grab the boat key in the shack to the right then book it back the way we came.

4. Go back to the area with the opening to the outside. Go down the path to a shack and to the left is a boat to use the Boat Key on. Move forward and follow along into a cave to disembark. You’ll come to a green sheet to begin another cutscene.

5. After the cutscene run along the wooden path to the land. Go into the power building to the right and around back outside. Go up the path to the broken windmill. Next, go inside and down the ladder then outside onto the floating roof. On the right is a wooden part to go across.

6. You then need to shoot the wooden piece ahead with a yellow tape to bring down the wooden path. After this, be careful going over the barely floating wooden pieces as the fish monster can insta-kill you if he’s going over it and you’re on it. Move forward and then you’ll need to shoot 2 wooden pieces with yellow tape to bring down the leaning tower and make a wooden path forward (this is also required does not disqualify only using melee). As you go up, you’ll be able to push a minecart into the water.

7. You’ll then drop down to the left and open then interact with the power box to pull down a lever bringing up another minecart. Next, you’ll be hitting colored power levers that correspond to specific colored platforms. Just hit these as quick as possible hitting all of them. You’ll need to go across to the right to activate a white, orange and blue lever to keep moving on. Move onto the wooden platform after fish man leaves, then move to the left to avoid him attacking again (Good to go once he says, “Watch me Mama”. Immediately keep going and around to push another minecart. Finally, go up the stairs to push the minecart that we activated earlier to move on.

8. Break the slime, go up the ladder, and pull the lever to the right to pull up a ship. Go down and through the steering room then break the slime quickly to avoid the fish monster. You will then go into the windmill, use the knife on a lock to the ladder, go up then grab the Crank to the left. Go around and interact with the broken part of the ladder to then use the crank on the gear you took it out of to move the windmill. This will move a ladder into place on the opposite side, go up and around to a zipline. Use the crank on the gears of the broken windmill to restore electricity.

9. Head back down to the power building and use the control console to the right. You’ll need to match the picture to the right using the black box as the reference point. After that puzzle, use the lever to the left to drain the previous area. Leave the power building going down a path and to the right of the windmill down into a house. Head down into the next area for the fish monster boss fight.

10. Knife the man in his face and when he goes up on the building hide under cover to avoid the acid spray. Just keep slicing at his face and this fight is over pretty quick. [Time- 1:24:30]

11. Go up the path ahead after beating the fish monster and before the key door go to the left to find the piece to make the Six Winged Unborn key and start a cutscene. After, use the Sing Winged Unborn key on the door then go forward to activate an elevator up.

12. Open up a locked gate ahead back to the village. Follow the river and sign saying “This Way” back up to the Graveyard. Head past the Maiden of War and up to the Graveyard past the gate to the Church to reach a door we can use the Six Winged Unborn key on.

Heisenberg
1. Move straight forward along the path and you’ll come across a good few lycans. Run forward to a structure and you’ll go up stairs to reach a gate. You’ll need to activate levers on the top left and top right to open this gate with lycans coming in droves. Just guard and slice until the gate opens.

2. After opening the gate, move through the linear path and then up the tower into the stronghold. As you move in, many lycans spawn and you’ll have to move to the left and up to a zip line. Take the zip line, up the stairs to the right, moving forward for a super armored lycan to spawn. Guard past him and his crew to progress through the door into a circular room.

3. Go down the spiral staircase then on the left side will be a crack to go through. Move forward to end up falling into an area with multiple pedestals and this is the King Lycan boss fight. (Straightforward, just keep slicing his right knee) [1:31:44 at beginning of fight]

4. After the fight, go to the right side of the arena and through a passage around to pick up the Torso flask and start a cutscene. Go down the stairs and get in the boat to progress. Disembark and go up the ladder ahead, this will lead to a Iron Insignia gate that brings you back to the village. Head to the Altar and place each flask into the center altar. This will give you the Giant’s Chalice and open a path directly ahead to the Ceremony Site.

5. Head to the ceremony site and place the Giant’s Chalice in the center and this will begin a cutscene. After this you will be lowered down to progress up toward the factory across the path we just saw made. Go through the main gate and into the building door that opens up following the linear path eventually interacting with a sheet to start a cutscene. After dropping down and another cutscene you will need to run. [Time- 1:38:20 at beginning of chase]

6. After going down the chute, follow the bright red/yellow pieces of metal up then up a ladder. Guard past the zombies and pull off a grate and up another ladder. Go to the hallway past the elevator/merchant to a room with a light lock to break. Kill a zombie then guard past and follow this linear path around to the Foundry. Kill these zombies.

7. Go up the stairs to the left of the casting machine, go into the door around to the right that has an enemy in a chair waiting to activate. You’ll find a box in the back that contains the Relief Mold. Leave the mechanical monster and go back the way we came. Use the Relief Mold on the casting machine then grab the Relief of a Horse to use on the door right ahead. [Time- 1:41:56]

8. Kill this zombie and go left and down with an area of moving machines. Navigate your way through here avoiding the machines and killing enemies. Go up a ladder and open a grate at the top. Move through the hallway with all the machine enemies hanging and open the locked door to the left (back to foundry). Look back right (optional: use an explosive on the yellow X Marks the spot) and go through the path to the right down some stairs then up some stairs to the right. In a room up here is a large box with the Cog Mold.

9. Open the locked door right behind you and go down the hallway with the machines (the last one will activate and you should kill him). Go back into the foundry and use the Cog Mold on the casting machine then head back to the Backup Generator room and place the Large Cog inside. This will activate the production line so go down and run through the linear path ahead (all other paths have been closed off). Run past machine-men in the way, until you go up stairs seeing a machine-man activate. Look right to break 5 lights on a vault door. Go around this maze area then up some more stairs then left as a super machine man spawns in while quickly slicing another 5 light vault door.

10. Press the button to the left to lower a path forward. Go through here finding another machine-man and another 5 light door. Run from the Heli dude to the left and through a blue door. Go toward the elevator and activate the lever then right to the ladder up. Follow the linear path into a cave with the yellow rope on the ground (optional: side area with two enemies and herb, pipe bomb, and maybe ammo?)

11. In the drill room, at the back is a vent you crawl through. You will end up in the vent room with 2 Mega-super machine-men. You need to shoot the 3 glowing corners of the vent and 1 glowing middle to shut it off then go up the ladder past it (be careful not to shoot the enemies). Follow the linear path through a hallway and upstairs to see on your left the Factory Map (lower levels). Follow the path to where you will see wind to start a mandatory action sequence where you shoot a rotating vent (required shooting). Go forward and down around the pipe, then up a ladder opening a vault door. Press the button ahead to go up an elevator. [Time- 1:52:31]

12. Up in this next room you will find a big box with the Key Mold so now it’s time to head back to the foundry. Go forward and up a ladder to activate the main elevator with the merchant and head down to B4. Take the path to the left where we originally went to get to the foundry. Go past the spawning machine-man and continue to go down stairs to open a door to the foundry. Kill this machine-man. Use the Key Mold on the casting machine to receive Heisenberg Key. Head out the door opposite the casting machine avoiding the machine-man to go through the dark hallways. Go past a fully armored machine-man then down further encountering another fully armored machine-man in a red room. Back out and lead him away to make it back toward the main elevator.

13. Go up to B1 and then use the Heisenberg key on the door outside and follow the path. You come across the Heli guy and he will break open this area for the boss fight. (knife his weak spot on his back, he charges and shoots flames, hide and wait for him to charge and get stuck when he starts turning around)

14. After this go through a door on your right, down into this area, up a ladder across a beam then pull a lever. Go through a door and attempt to open the door to the left to start a cutscene. You will be knocked back to the bottom of the factory. Open a grate to the left and move forward moving a board out of the way then starting a cutscene. After, get on the tank machine and in the elevator ahead to go fight Heisenberg. (allowed to shoot in this fight with the tank, make sure to knife when he takes you out of the tank). [Time- 2:06:33]

15. After the boss fight with Heisenberg, you’ll begin an ‘epilogue’ sort of section playing as Chris Redfield. He’s decked out with weapons but be sure to only use his knife. You’ll just need to use the target locator when you get to the big mutated tree thing. You will need to kill as needed and dance around the enemies waiting for the target locator to recharge. DO NOT USE IT IN THE KING LYCAN FIGHT. This will take a lot of knife slices but do not use the target locator. Follow the linear path to the megamycyte underground after this boss fight.

16. Move forward after the large red megamycyte into a room with a lot of pictures. Move through and shoot the lock off the cell door to start a cutscene. After this there will be another cutscene where you switch to Ethan. When you gain control move forward to go into another cutscene. [Time- 2:19:07]

17. You will wake up in the Duke’s carriage for another cutscene and then finally gain control of your character to go fight Mother Miranda. Go straight to the ceremony site ignoring the enemies that drop. You will then enter the final boss fight of the game against Miranda. It’s important to note you must knife her this entire fight until you get to the point where you’re forced to shoot her when thrown to the ground. This does not void the all-knife achievement. She also has distinct tells for when you need to guard to conserve hp. When she does the fire balls just guard until these go away. Try and save 1-2 uses of recovery items to be used here as this is a long fight.

18. Three cutscenes later and the game is over congratulations!
