On this day in 1957, in Liverpool, England. 15-year-old Paul McCartney watched a band called the Quarrymen led by John Lennon. The two teens met later that day and before long created one of the most popular rock groups of the 20th century, The Beatles.

Today is also the birthday of the Dalai Lama. Born Lhamo Dondrub in 1935, the Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader, and Nobel Peace Prize recipient is once one of the most recognised individuals across the globe.
