On this day in 2002 American Idol Premiered, hosted by Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. The first seasons "American Idol" was Kelly Clarkson. The show ran on Fox until 2016 when it was cancelled due to decreasing ratings, ABC took the show over in 2018.

In 1987 Diane Abbott, Paul Boateng and Bernie Grant are elected as the first black MPs in Great Britain.
