Canelo Embraces Great Challenge!

Canelo Embraces Great Challenge!

On Wednesday, middleweight world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez went face to face with light heavyweight world titlist Sergey Kovalev at their press conference. A lot of fans noticed that Canelo was way smaller than anyone expected when facing off Kovalev. The 6 foot Russian is always going to be the larger fighter out of the two fighters since Canelo isn’t a light heavyweight fighter, Canelo is normally in the middleweight to super middleweight division and will have to get all the way up to 175lbs just to fight the Russian on the 2nd November. Canelo will be working hard to reach the 175lb range and will be wanting to rewrite history and become the 4th fighter to win a junior middleweight title and then win the light heavyweight champion.

The way Alvarez sees it, he will be moving up to the light heavyweight division to fight the Russian for his world title and create history at the same time. He is wanting to add to his legacy and prove to fighters around the world he doesn’t back down from a fight. This highly anticipated bout will be on the 2nd November 2019 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. This will also be live on the DAZN app.

“I’m very motivated here, it’s an honour for me to share the ring with a fighter like Kovalev, who I met in 2012” Said Canelo. They both met at the Big Bear Lake in California where they both trained a while back, now they are going to have one of the contenders as the fight of the year, if it goes the distance. Kovalev is a great fighter and won’t back down from Canelo. If Canelo wins this bout, he will be in the hall of fame with Sugar Ray Leonard as one of the only fighters to win the junior middleweight title and a light heavyweight title.
