The World Health Organisation has changed its advice on face masks, and now recommends them.

Face masks could act as a barrier to droplets.

This is pretty big, considering the fact not too long ago WHO didn’t believe there was enough evidence to support the use of face masks for everyone in public.

They said that they changed their official guidance after new evidence suggested that face masks provided “a barrier for potentially infectious droplets”.

WHO initially only believed that the face masks would stop those who have the virus spreading it, and even then not by much. But they still advised the sick, and those treating the sick, to wear them.

The official guidance has now been extended to everyone, healthy or sick.

In a statement, WHO director Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that: “In light of evolving evidence, the WHO advises that governments should encourage the general public to wear masks where there is widespread transmission and physical distancing is difficult, such as on public transport, in shops or in other confined or crowded environments”.

Globally, since the pandemic began, over 7 million cases of the Coronavirus have been confirmed, and there have been over 406,000 deaths at the time of writing. The cases continue to rise around the world, with the 6 million mark being passed not that long ago. The USA still makes up over 1/4 of all cases worldwide, past and present, with Brazil and Russia having the second and third most confirmed cases.
