A horrific high-speed train crash at a station in the Turkish capital Ankara has killed at least nine people and injured 47.

Pictures from the tragic incident show firefighters and paramedics desperately trying to rescue survivors in the wreckage.  Reports quoting local officials said the high speed train had crashed another train, then proceeded to hit an overpass. The accident occurred at about 06:30 Turkish time (03:30 GMT).

The crash happened at the Marsandiz railway station, around 8km (5 miles) from Ankara’s main station.

At a recent news conference, Vasip Sahin, the governor of the capital,  said the train was travelling from Ankara to the southern city of Konya when it collided with a locomotive inspecting tracks at the station.

Three train drivers were among nine people killed in the crash, according to Turkish Transport Minister Cahit Turhan. Its also been reported that 206 passengers were on board the train. Three of the injured are said to be in a serious condition.

In the tweet, it says how there have been signalling problems for some time now, and that “the accident is murder”.
