You would think a country who’s disregard for Human Rights is so fully in the international Spotlight (think Jamal Khashoggi and the debacle in the Yemen) would scale it back a bit. But no they just carry on regardless, this time executing an Indonesian maid (and mother) without notifying Indonesia’s consular staff or even her family.

Her crime killing her employer while trying to defend herself from being raped. In any civilized country this would have been treated as extreme mitigating circumstances, but Saudi Arabia is the misogynistic capital of the world and instead Tuti Tursilawati was executed on Monday in the city of Thaif.

Sadly this is not an isolated incident and the rights of immigrant workers seem to be largely non existent and until recently Indonesia had banned its citizens from working in Saudi Arabia following widespread allegations of torture & abuse. One wonders how many more atrocities it will take before even the Saudi’s vast wealth is no longer enough for the world to keep turning a blind eye.
