A man in London was found with over £1m in cash after police searched his home.

The man was initially stopped with £12,000 on him when driving one night, and was arrested after he couldn’t explain why he had that much money on him.

They later searched his premises where they found the large amounts of money. They found it in shoe boxes, and bags at his home, and also found several passports there too.

Detective Chief Inspector Shaun White said: “Whilst we are in the process of counting all of this cash, we believe we have seized almost £1 million.

“There is no justifiable reason for this much cash not be kept in a bank account, unless it has been sourced from ill-gotten activities involving criminality.

Some of the money found in the home.

“This is a great seizure involving both strands of Operation Venice – our Scorpion drivers, who use motorbikes and cars to stop criminals using powered two-wheelers  and our Venice Investigations Team, who carry out the searches and develop the arrests through court in order to secure convictions.”

The 31 year old man currently remains in police custody, as they try and figure out where all this money has came from.

White added: “Operation Venice officers work around the clock, alongside, and supported by officers from around the Met to tackle serious and organisedcrime. We will continue to work with them to arrest and prosecute those who believe they can get away with criminal behaviour in the capital.”
