Witnesses have been asked to come forward after a man was shot in what police believe to be a case of mistaken identity in London.

Police have since cordoned off the area the attack took place in.

At just after 8.20pm on Monday evening, police were called to a north London residence where they discovered a man had been shot in the head on a doorstep.

Met police have confirmed that he was pronounced dead at the scene and a full murder investigation has since been launched.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Partridge, said: “This was a cowardly attack on an innocent man who was shot dead on his own doorstep.

“Although at an early stage of the investigation, I strongly suspect that he was not the intended target of this attack; making this case all the more tragic.

The attack happened in Haringey, north London, where officers believe two men carried out the attack, wearing all black and motorcycle helmets.

He added: “It would have still been light when the shooting took place and I’m hoping there are people out there who saw something who we’ve not yet spoken to”.

The attacker(s) are said to have gotten away on a moped after the attack.

“Witnesses or those with information that may help should call the incident room on 020 8358 0300 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111.”
