Michael Flynn’s latest appearance in court was expected to be a bit of a formality – a wrist slap and no hard time. This despite admitting to lying to the FBI. This mild rebuke was expected in large part due to the former national security advisor’s co-operation with the Russian election-meddling probe. However, Judge Sullivan may have other ideas and at one stage in the hearing asked the prosecutor whether the special counsel’s office had ever considered charging Flynn with treason!

Sentencing has been deferred and although it is entirely possible Flynn will receive some sort of prison sentence, it is also possible that he has some further information to divulge which may lead to the Court easing up.

President Trump has made no secret of the fact that he would like to see this matter quietly disappear from public scrutiny, however with the threat of a prison sentence hanging over him, it is entirely possible that some further embarrassing revelations may come out regarding Russian meddling in the Presidential election.
