A man has been arrested on suspicion of abducting student Libby Squire who went missing last week.

Libby Squire, 21, was last seen getting into a taxi outside the Welly Club music venue in Hull at 23:00 GMT on Thursday. She was believed to have been dropped off a short distance later close to where she lived, Wellesley Avenue. She was helped by another motorist who pulled over after seeing her sit on a bench in the street. This motorist made contact with the police and helped with the search. The student was spotted on CCTV in Beverley Road near the junction with Haworth Street around 45 minutes later.

Police have appealed for anyone who was on Haworth Street between 23:30 and 00:30 on the night she disappeared to get in touch.

Miss Squire, who is 5ft 7in tall and has long dark brown hair, had been wearing a black leather jacket, black long-sleeved top and a black denim skirt with lace.

Humberside Police said a 24-year-old man was arrested at an address in Raglan Street in Hull on Wednesday night. The man remains in custody and is assisting police with inquiries.

Humberside Police added: “We have not yet found Libby and doing so remains our top priority,”

Libby did not enter her house even though her phone was found in her house. Her phone  “has not provided any further insight as to where she may be or her movements that night”, the force said.

Around 20 officers have searched a wooded area near Oak Road Playing Fields, which is close to where she was last seen. Police had search dogs and helicopters out searching as well.  Police now plan to drive an 11 sq m mobile billboard around the area where she was last seen and leaflets will be handed out later in hope to “gather more information”.

Her disappearance is said to be “very out of character” and they have been “broken without her”.
