In an interview with the BBC the Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir put up a stout defense of his sovereign stating Calls to remove Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman are a “red line”. What that is supposed to mean is unclear but probably indicates they will retaliate economically.
This seems to have hit the spot with Donald Trump who seems to be casually dismissed the CIA’s report linking Jamaal Khashoggi’s Murder to the Crown Prince with his maybe he knew and maybe he didn’t statement. This despite the US Congress demanding an investigation into whether the prince had a role in the murder. Clearly by his actions President Trump views legality, morality and global leadership responsibilities as being less important than take US economic prosperity.
Mr Trump is sending a dangerous message to all the worlds Despots. – basically, we don’t care what you do if there is US interests and money at stake. This view seems to be raising a few hackles in the Senate judging by the tweet below.
New: @SenBobCorker + @SenatorMenendez, top GOP + Dem on Senate Foreign Relations Committee, trigger 2nd sanctions investigation by Trump admin, specifically on whether Crown Prince MBS ordered #Khashoggi‘s killing. “We expect to receive your determination within 120 days.” pic.twitter.com/3YlHAn4FWN
