EA, or Electronic Arts, are a game development company which you’ve probably heard of.

They’ve developed a number of popular games, such as FIFA, Star Wars Battlefront and the Battlefield Series. And as good as they are, I, like many other FIFA fans, can’t help but take issue with EA sports.

FIFA is probably their best selling title yearly. Most guys in the UK who own a console own a copy of FIFA, and play it religiously. There are a number of different modes you can play, such as local kickoff, which is where you simply play games with people on your console using other controllers, or against the computer, Pro Clubs, where you make a virtual character and build his stats online playing with other virtual players to make a club, and Fifa Ultimate Team. Let’s talk about Ultimate team for a second.

Fifa Ultimate team is the mode most people get the game for. It allows you to build your own team with players of your choice, who also may receive upgrade cards later in the game, depending on how they play in real life. This mode could definitely be described as “pay to win.“ What do I mean by that? Well, you can buy virtual credits with real money which you can then use to open packs that include players. There’s no guarantee you’ll get anyone good, but if you buy enough, you’ll at least get someone, and a lot of spare coins too.

The gameplay hasn’t been that good this year, it’s been buggy and volatile. But, we can’t expect them to re code the game mechanics mid year – there’s nothing we can do until next Fifa.

They often update this mode regularly, releasing fixes and updates weekly, and sometimes even daily. It’s obviously they’ve invested a lot of their time into Ultimate team. So the question we all have for EA Sports is, why don’t you fix bugs on other game modes?

Bugs on practice arena, where if a set piece hits the bar or post your player freezes, bugs in pro clubs, that messes up your players appearance, and the fact your created player can’t have 5* skills, all seem to get ignored by EA. They’re out there on many forums getting much attention. Those mentioned are only a few of the bugs there actually are in the game. Some of these bugs have been there for years – but I fail to see a consistent Ultimate team bug, apart from the community being bugged by the fact they only focus on the game mode that consistently makes them more money.

They don’t listen to the community very much, especially when it’s about something other than ultimate team. It’s almost like they take your money, and only update a game mode where you need to spend more money to be able to play it at a decent level. And looking at twitter replies, it seems people have had enough. Some have even gone as far as saying they’re not buying another Fifa. But, it’s not all bad. As long as you don’t play the game for long amounts of time the bugs won’t bug you. But it shouldn’t have to be that way.

A search of EA on twitter. These results are there regularly.
