Do Liverpool Need A New Striker?

After Firmino’s questionable performance at the weekend, and his mere 9 goals last season in the premier league, critics claim he could use some competition up front in the form of a new signing.

Firmino needs to score more goals, critics say.

Firmino failed to score last weekend, missing an absolute sitter against Leeds. It’s not the first time he’s put out an average performance – which quite simply doesn’t compare with the likes of Mane and Salah, so Liverpool legend John Aldridge has made comments on how Bobby may benefit from having some competition in the team, to keep him on his toes. He is definitely a capable player, and has world class moments, but he seems to have got too “comfortable”.

“There’s been a lot said about Liverpool’s stance in the transfer market this summer but I can’t help but feel it might do Bobby some good if he did have someone breathing down his neck for his place so he knows he’s got to score goals,” Aldridge said.

“That’s the bottom line and he knows that. He’s not been doing that at Anfield for the last year or so and it needs to change.”

Joe Gomez has been playing well recently and is trying his hardest to maintain a place in the first team, after Joel Matip has since returned to fitness.

Jordan Henderson may also be replaced by Fabinho after questionable performances and fitness recently.

As Liverpool face Chelsea away this weekend, it will be interesting to see what Klopp will do with the front three, particularly the number 9 position.
