A Barrow woman has been fined £1,000 for heading down to the pub, just half an hour after being told to self isolate.

She is said to have put others at risk of catching the virus. It’s not clear if she has tested positive or not.

After being told to stay at home by a test and trace worker, she thought it was only right she got in a taxi and went to the pub.

The unnamed woman was fined £1,000, after it was proven, with the help of the test and trace app, that she had ignored instructions to self isolate.

After news broke, Cumbrian police urged others to not make the same mistake, and to follow instructions if you’ve been identified as a potential risk.

Superintendent Carl Patrick, of Cumbria police, said: “This was a blatant breach and put all those this woman came into contact with at unnecessary risk.

“The Covid-19 virus continues to spread rapidly across our county.

“It is up to everybody to show personal responsibility and to be careful to follow the guidance and rules in place to keep everyone safe.

“The vast majority of people in Cumbria have stuck to the rules and made many personal sacrifices over the past few months to keep themselves, their families and our communities safe.

“We must all continue to stick to the guidance and regulations and all do our bit to protect ourselves, our families and our communities.”

Councillor Ann Thomson, the leader of Barrow Borough Council, is aware of the issue, and is also aware that cases are rising quickly in the Barrow area. She is said to be “saddened” by the individuals actions, and like the Police, urges people to stay at home if they’re instructed to by the relevant people.

She said: “It saddens me deeply that someone would disregard an instruction to self-isolate from a member of our Track and Trace team.

“This selfish action could knowingly place other people at risk.

“Cases of coronavirus are spreading rapidly across our area. Please take this situation extremely seriously and stay at home if you are told to self-isolate.

“Ignoring this instruction will not only land you with a fine, it could put those you come into contact with and others in grave danger.”

Pubs are set to close in some Northern areas, after the PM approved the decision to do so recently. Scotland has also banned the serving of alcohol in settings such as bars and restaurants, after a rise in cases.

Further restrictions seem to be looming, as cases rise across the country.
