Australia took the moral high ground in deciding not to punish children for the sins of their parents this week when they evacuated Eight children belonging to known terrorists from Syria. Six of these were taken to Syria by their parents after they were born in Australia, while two were born in the conflict zone. Three children belonged to notorious and now deceased Australian militant Khaled Sharrouf and this does put into question the UK’s refusal to allow Shamima Begum to bring her baby back to Britain. The three-week-old baby died in a refugee camp in Syria after Home secretary Sajid Javid stripped her of citizenship rather than have her arrested and ensure the baby was safe.
“There was no attempt to help by the Home Office, I think it’s shocking how the home secretary has treated this situation.”

Hopefully, this will serve as a precedent in dealing with such issues going forward.
