In a positive move, a number of luxury properties seized from drug cartel leaders have been auctioned off in Mexico on the orders of President Andres Manuel López Obrador. The proceeds are earmarked for those most affected by drug gang violence particularly in the ultra-violent state of Guerrero. Amongst the properties offered were houses with escape tunnels, a large ranch and an apartment where a cartel leader was killed.

The auction which was held in Mexico City reportedly raised 56.6m pesos (around £2.3m), however only 9 of the 27 properties sold – probably because the only people who could afford them were Drug Barons and outside of this demograph the demand for escape tunnels is quite low.
The good news is that Mexico’s President Andres Manuel López Obrador seems to be sticking true to his pre-election pledges of redistributing the countries wealth to the betterment of the poor.
