Archie suffered “catastrophic” brain damage in an accident at home three months ago. His mother found Archie unconscious with a ligature over his head on 7 April. She thinks he may have been taking part in an online challenge. The youngster has not regained consciousness since.

He has been receiving care from the Royal London Hospital in east London, but not much care is being given due to the circumstances Archie is in. He is classed as brain-stem dead and is currently not aware of anything due to him being in a comatose state.

The doctors have made the decision to stop all of his treatments as they are prolonging a life that isn’t much of a life for him and to give him the dignity he deserves.

Last week, The appeal court judges ruled that the doctors could lawfully disconnect and remove his ventilator which is the only machine keeping him alive.

Archie’s family applied to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities (UNRPD) to consider the case, arguing it had a protocol that allowed individuals and families to “make complaints about violations of disabled people’s rights”.

The court agreed with the doctors that all life support should be removed from Archie and let him pass away peacefully rather than make him stay in the unconscious state he is in.

The decision has been made to remove all of Archies life support and infusions today on 01/08/2022 at 2 pm.
