Private hire taxi company Addison Lee plans to put self driving taxis on the road by 2021.

The company has stated that the release of the technology on the roads would help to “address congestion, free space used for parking and improve urban air quality”. The self diving car industry is said to be worth £28 billion by the year 2035, and Addison Lee boss Andy Boland says he wants them to be at the “forefront” of that. The company says it will now work with the self driving technology company Oxbotica; using their combined effort to make the seemingly impossible technology a reality, and shaping a new future for the roads of London. This will no doubt cause some competition between Addison Lee and Uber, who are also planning to develop driverless cars to be used on the roads in the near future.
