A middle aged man who rang 999 multiple times and burped at the operators has been caught re-offending.

Rhys Pilott was given a 24-week prison sentence last year at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court, after he told them that he burped down the phone at 999 operators because he was bored.

He has since been caught re-offending, after Cambridge Constabulary arrested him again on 30 December 2019 for burping at call handlers. He admitted causing a “public nuisance and persistently making use of a public communication network to cause annoyance” and was given a 10-week prison sentence on Wednesday, suspended for 24 months. He was also made to attend 40 days of a rehabilitation activity, and to pay a victim surcharge of £122. Footage from the crime is below.
