What a year its been for the Washington Nationals who despite trading their biggest star in the offseason have reached their first-ever World Series, and in some style sweeping the Cardinals. That’s the way to a way to celebrate your 50th anniversary.

Prior top this season the Nationals (or Montreal Expos for those who can remember that far back) had only ever won one postseason series as the Expos back in 1989 and had lost four consecutive NLDS series appearances since. However, this changed as they first edged past the Brewers in the Wild Card and then pulled off a shock beating the much-fancied LA Dodgers 3-2 in the NLDS; having twice looked all but finished (they were 3 runs down in two elimination games). They finished the series off in some style too winning it with a 10th Innings Grand Slam.

Path To The Finals

In the NLCS they made short work of St Louis and were never behind in any game. Game four was over pretty much before it got started as they scored seven runs in the first, allowing them to cruise through the rest of the game.

Washington now awaits seeing who they play in the World Series either the Houston Astros or The NY Yankees. Whoever they face it will be a historic series and Nationals Park will be sold out for at least a couple of games.

Washington’s Post Season Path To The World Series

It could so easily have come to nothing as they only just scraped through the Wild Card Round but then just kept getting better. It will be a brave person who bets against them lifting the trophy now.
