This contest had the potential to be the fight of the year and it turned in to a shambles. This behaviour, both before and post fight will not have done either the UFC, or MMA in general, any favours. Martial arts are supposed to be showcased inside the cage and the martial arts enthusiasts are not solely interested in the pugilistic prowess but also in the way the competitors conduct themselves. This kind of thuggish behaviour shows a complete lack of respect for the arena, the art and most importantly the spectators. Traditional martial art clubs that for the last 40 years or so could find in most towns, Karate, Judo Taekwondo, have been suffering due to the advent of and the popularity of MMA schools, should this kind of behaviour be allowed to continue unchecked, it is likely in my view, to force potential MMA students away from the mixed martial art schools and back towards the traditional schools where this kind of behaviour would never be tolerated.
Dana White, the president of the UFC as well as the leaders of other organisations such as Scott Cokers, Bellator, need to reign these idiots in and have them be respectful and let their fighting do the talking and not their big mouths. Look out the traditional schools out there, you may be getting an influx of students.
