10 hacks that can take your hair from dull to glossy

There is nothing like a good hair day to make your confidence blossom. Many of us go around our days with dull lifeless hair but this does not have to be the case. You do not need to spend your hair days stuck in ponytails, buns, plaits to hide the condition of your hair.

Follow these ten tips to say goodbye to dull and lifeless hair and say hello to glossy and amazing hair days…

Know your hair

Base your hair care on what is in the product not the price. Parabens, alcohol, sulphates and fragrances are some of the ingredients to try and avoid if you want the best condition for your hair. For best results cut products with these ingredients in if they touch your scalp, this includes shampoo, conditioner, masks, serums, sprays and even hair dye.

Sulphate is used in shampoo to make it foamy, but it strips the moisture from your hair making it dry and damaged. Sulphates are detergents, they lead to many hair problems such as scalp irritation, dry hair and hair loss. It will remove all the gloss and natural shine from your hair leaving you with dull hair – not a good look.

Focus on foods

What we put on our hair matters, it is as sensitive as our skin but eating the right foods will also make a big difference. Protein and iron-rich foods are both super important when you want strong and healthy hair. Vitamin A is also very important as it helps oil up your hair glands but too much vitamin A will stop hair growth so try not to over do it!

Switch up your shower routine

This may sound crazy but try conditioner before shampoo. This method has been loved by many bloggers and influencers recently because it has the ability to give the hair a boost of nourishment without the weight that can come with conditioning.

Clarifying shampoo

Having a shower to wash your hair has been the way for many years but no one said mineral-heavy water hard water can leave your hair looking dull and dry. Use a clarifying shampoo as this will lift the excess water and restore shine but use this sparingly as it can also strip essential oils from the hair. If this is not up your street before you finish your shower grab filtered water from the fridge and pour over your hair. This will wash away the nasty properties from the hair and the cold water will help seal your hair cuticles and lock in the oils to give you hair the shine it needs.

Extra step

It is worth taking an extra step and a bit more effort to get hair everyone will be envious over. Adding a step such as scalp exfoliation once of month, a weekly nourishing mask or anything that improves you hair care will help to get your hair gleaming.

Trim regularly

Many of us will not get a regular trim as its effort even if it takes two minutes. However, by snipping them split ends off will make your hair look healthier. By taking some hair of the ends also helps to reduce the strain on your scalp and stop the strands from snapping. This means less frizz and more sleek.

Brush up

Starting brushing hair from the bottom of you hair using little downwards strokes then adding in more and more hair as you move up makes more of a difference than you think. It combs the hair without damaging the hair and breaking pieces. it is also better to only brush your hair when dry, wet hair is more delicate and prone to breakage.

Massage

A regular scalp massage encourages circulation and blood flow to the hair follicle. It is great for boosting hair growth and healthy hair. Make this a weekly routine and use a hair oil, gently massage into the roots and then wash your hair after to get rid of the grease.

Destress

Try to relax and live a calm, cool and collective life. Take time to relax and let go off all stress and negativity. Hair can fall out from stress and yes it is a real thing. Make sure you destress to help your hair grow.

Turn down the heat

Everyone loves a nice warm shower after a cold day but did you know heat damages hair? Turn your heat down as you are draining all the moisture from your hair. It is not all about showers though, it is also important to use heat protection spray when using any form of heat tool (hair dryer, curlers, straighteners) if you can also turn the heat settings down so it is not damaging your hair as much. On the other hand you could just go natural and say goodbye to hair heat tools this is the best way you can make your hair really shine.
