Pizza Express may close 67 outlets and cut 1,100 jobs!

Pizza Express is possibly closing 67 UK restaurants, which will make 1,100 jobs redundant.

The news came in just a day after the government introduced its Eat Out to Help out plan to help boost restaurants’ trade.

Unfortunately Pizza Express has not stated which of its 449 UK restaurants were possible targets of being closed! It currently has 166 restaurants open for business, and all of them are including Chancellor Rishi Sunaks £10 off meal deal.

Since lockdown, all Pizza Express’s were closed from the 23rd of March, but as the lockdown eased they slowly started reopening in the month of July, Pizza express informed people that the high demand of customers was encouraging the restaurants to reopen which made making plans for further reopenings more realistic.

If they go ahead with the decision of closing 67 restaurants that would mean they would be losing 15% of its restaurants, but a final outcome is still yet to be decided.

It would be a sad loss to lose so many restaurants and so many staff members to be made redundant, as the first Pizza Express restaurant was opened by the late Peter Boizot in 1965 this restaurant was built in London’s Soho and by 2020 Pizza Express has more than 600 restaurants globally, 454 of them in the UK, 19 in Ireland, 24 in Hong Kong, 6 in Singapore, 14 in the UAE, 60 in China and 49 other international sites operated by franchises.
