ITV have revealed that The Bay will be returning for a second series

ITV will be taking fans back to Morecambe for a new series of The Bay.

The final of series one left watchers with a lot of questions and hardly any answers. The last episode of series one was the most watched one yet with 7.3 million viewers tuning in.

The Bay is written by award-winning writer and playwright Daragh Carville.  It is a series centred around two teenage twins that go missing from a small coastal community. The series followed lots of different events and drama which kept everyone hooked for weeks.  Detective Sergeant Lisa Armstrong, a Family Liaison Officer risked compromising her case by not disclosing her own attachments with the step father of the missing twins.

“I am delighted with the audience response to The Bay,” ITV’s Head of Drama Polly Hill said. “It’s very real and beautifully made by everyone involved, and as a result it held an audience of 7 million across six weeks.

“I think that audience will enjoy seeing where Daragh takes Lisa and the team, when they return with a new case for series 2 next year.”

Executive Producer Catherine Oldfield said: “We are so thrilled that The Bay found such a large audience and that the fantastic world and characters brought to life by Daragh Carville will be returning to ITV. It was an incredible production, shot in a beautiful location and thanks to ITV’s belief in the story we wanted to tell, we get to do it all over again.”

The Bay will begin production on season two later this year, with news about returning and new cast being announced closer to the time.
