The Allosaurus would typically eat large herbivore dinosaurs such as Stegosaurus, they were known for being fast even for their size. They had  razor sharp teeth. They lost teeth easily however they were continuously replaced, this is according to the 1976 analysis.

However in a study in 2001 studies shown that the Allosaurus had a bite that was weaker than lions, alligators and leopards. They is why people believe they used their large skull which has small horns above their eyes, which would do the most damage to its prey, and that they would use their teeth to rip the flesh of the dinosaurs.

The first fossil to be discovered was found in 1877 in Colorado and named by Othniel Charles Marsh. A more complete Allosaurus skeleton was found in 1879 by H.F. Hubbell, but it was left unpacked at the time.
