What’s Next for Andy Ruiz Jr?

Andy Ruiz Jr shocked the world on the 1st June 2019, beating the undefeated champion of the world Anthony Joshua via TKO in the 7th round. No one was expecting a huge upset that day, many fans thought Joshua was going to beat the Mexican powerhouse easy, however he proved to everyone what he can do. We now have the first ever Mexican IBF, WBO, WBA and IBO world heavyweight champion! The main question on everyone’s mind is now… what’s next for the Mexican powerhouse, Andy Ruiz?

Now that he is the unified heavyweight champion of the world, he has the whole division wanting to try and take his titles, such as Anthony Joshua again, Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder and Dillian Whyte. He could go off and fight Wilder for his WBC heavyweight championship soon if he plays his cards right! There is only really a few ways Ruiz can go about this. He has a new journey he can go down since he is the champion of the world. Only two fighters will most likely be able to fight him right now, one more likely to happen than the other!

WBC Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has said he wants to unify the division but would never fight Anthony Joshua, however now that there is a new champion about, will Wilder take the opportunity? Wilder is known for being one of the hardest hitting boxers in the heavyweight division, so he would give Ruiz a run for his money! This would be the fight the whole world wants to see, since it’ll unify the division once and for all! Ruiz could take this fight and be one of the 2 fighters to fight both Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder and could tell the world who is better since they aren’t fighting any time soon!

The rematch between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jr is more likely to happen. The rematch clause allows Joshua to have a chance of winning his titles back in the future, which he has said he’s wanting to do. Eddie Hearn has been working on getting this fight to happen once again, however it’s not looking like it’s going to be in the UK or in the US. Andy Ruiz wants the fight to be in Mexico. Since he is the champion he can choose where to take the fight, if this fight does go through!
