The UFC returned to London, with a mixed fight card, that featured the headline fight between England’s own Darren Till and Jorge Masvidal in an explosive Welterweight match up. In the end, Masvidal proved the victor with a stunning knockout in Round 2. Till had taken the first round and was beginning to show why he really could be taken seriously as a future title contender, but Masvidal responded to Till’s aggression and struck with a hook that would send Till to the canvas. Many feel Masvidal is now at his career best and are watching with keen anticipation who will be next.
The co-main event of the evening featured local fighter Leon Edwards up against Gunnar Nelson, in another welterweight battle. There was a fantastic atmosphere in the O2 arena, switching between chants for Edwards and the Viking clap for Nelson. Edwards fought cautiously, managing to defend from a number of dominant positions imposed on him by Nelson. He was right to consider that he was ahead in the first two rounds, which allowed him to manage his time effectively in the third and not get drawn into Nelson’s game, which meant he held on for the decision victory.
