Shevchenko Wins
The Octagon made its debut in Montevideo, Uruguay this past weekend, featured a championship main event bout between the head of division, Valentina Shevchenko and Liz Carmouche. The two first met early in their fight careers, and whilst it was Carmouche who came out the victor on that occasion, the tables were turned this time around. It wasn’t the back and forth match that many had hoped for, but it was a fight controlled by Shevchenko who shut down Carmouche at every opportunity. This was Shevchenko’s third defence of her title within a three-month time frame, and a fourth will surely be following soon.
The co-main event featured an interesting welterweight matchup between the ever-popular Mike Perry and the rapidly improving Vicente Luque. Luque continued with his impressive win streak, which now stretches to six. Perry meanwhile came out of the fight with one of the most gruesome looking broken noses that most had ever seen. He has surgery the day after and is now on his road to recovery.
