UFC Fight Night Cejudo vs Dillashaw

Cejudo Vs Dillashaw UFC Flyweight

The main event of the evening was the much anticipated Flyweight contest between reigning champion Henry Cejudo and UFC bantamweight titleholder T J Dillashaw.  Despite much trash-talking in the run-up, Dillashaw showed his commitment to this different weight class and easily made weight.  However, the fight itself was not to prove as easy.  Cejudo came out the aggressor, but Dillashaw did manage to land a couple of leg kicks, however, the former Olympic medallist continued to press forward and the referee called a stop to the contest after just 31 seconds, by way of a TKO.  Dillashaw was upset with the stoppage but the neutrals watching the contest could see he was uncoordinated and as such agree it was a good stoppage.  Already – almost inevitably – there is talk of a rematch, but maybe this time with roles reversed with the fight taking place at bantamweight.

Greg Hardy Vs Allen Crowder UFC Heavyweight

The co-main event of the event, Greg Hardy Vs Allen Crowder at heavyweight, had been controversial since being announced, due to the well documented criminal conviction of former NFL player Hardy.  Round one proved somewhat frustrating for spectators, with the referee even calling for more action.  Both fighters battled hard, but neither seemed to make the breakthrough.  Round two started with a couple of attacks from both sides, but it was obvious to see both fighters’ pace was already slowing.  Halfway through the round Crowder attempted a takedown and Hardy blocked it, but whilst Crowder was still down Hardy delivered an illegal knee to his opponents’ temple.  The referee moved in to stop the action and stated that if Crowder was unable to continue he would disqualify Hardy – which is exactly what happened.  So, a disappointing victory for Crowder, and it is difficult to see how Hardy can redeem himself from here.
