UFC February Round Up

UFC Vegas 18 – Overeem Vs Volkov

Volkov continue to press towards a title challenge with a comprehensive victory over Alistair Overeem, winning by a TKO in the second round.  Whilst the future looks increasingly bright for Volkov, by the end of the month Overeem has now been released by the UFC to continue his career elsewhere

Other notable mentions on this card were Frankie Edgar returning against Corey Sandhagen,  with the latter coming out victorious by way of a flying knee in the first round;  and the veteran Clay Guida up against Michael Johnson – Guida was able to use all that experience to take the unanimous decision

UFC 258  Usman Vs Burns

Defending his 170 lbs belt, Kamaru Usman showed his impressive strength and power in a battle against Gilbert Burns that many would have liked to have seen go more than the 3 rounds it did, when it was finished due to a TKO.  Maycee Barber and Kelvin Gastellum were both also victorious, both winning by unanimous decisions

UFC Vegas 19 Blaydes Vs Lewis

Curtis Blaydes must surely be the only contender now for the heavyweight title, following a vicious knock out of Derrick Lewis in the second round

UFC Vegas 20 Rosenstruik Vs Gane

In what was probably one of the poorest UFC cards in quite a while, in terms of excitement, Jiarzinho Rosenstuik got the win over Cyrille Gane – progressing him up the contender ladder.  On this card – which did have the fight between Angela Hill and Ashley Yoder cancelled at late notice due to COVID protocols – saw 8 out of the 9 remaining bouts go to a decision.  However nothing can take away from Rosenstruik’s power and it will be interesting to see how he performs next time out – which is likely to be for the title.

Looking Forward

The double header between Amanda Nunes and Megan Anderson and Jan Blachowicz and Israel Adesanya promises to deliver some serious action, with a packed undercard too
