UFC 244 – Masvidal Vs Diaz – Results
Taking place at Madison Square Garden in New York, this past weekend saw the highly anticipated welterweight match-up between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz, for the now infamous BMF belt. In the early rounds Masvidal has the better of Diaz, however Diaz’s never say die mentality saw him battle on. When the doctor was called to check a cut above Diaz’s right eye after the third round, Diaz himself said he was good to continue, however the doctor waved the fight off – thus awarding a victory to Masvidal. Both fighters have said they’d look at doing the fight again – but so far, no comment from the UFC!
In the co-main event, a middleweight match-up featured previous welterweights Kelvin Gastelum and Darren Till. This was Till’s first outing in this new weight class, and was really a must-win for him after suffering previous defeats. The fight went back and forth and eventually in the favour of Till by way of a split decision. Post-fight Till explained he wasn’t in the right head-space prior to the fight, and with complete honestly, said he had even tried to fake an injury so the fight wouldn’t go ahead. Hopefully a victory will be the shot in the arm he needs and will be ready to take on even tougher challenges as he rises in the rankings.
